About Us

AFTER being the primary care giver for his mother through her last days battling cancer at the young age of 26 and making a ton of mistakes and poor choices in the grief process, and not seeing a lot of support of services to help, our Founder Billy Gene, the oldest of 6 kids, along with 2 of his sisters decided something must be done to help others through a very challenging grief process. After brainstorming a lot of ideas, Billy Gene decided to move forward and test these ideas for programs in his own life before really committing to a program that could sound good but may not be effective.

As he was just healed enough to feel whole and fully himself again after implementing the program initiatives in his own life, 5 years later, his father went to sleep and never woke up. And boom he landed right back at the bottom of the pit of grief and depression as some call the "Sunken Place". But because he has just finished climbing to the top of the last one after his mom passed, he was fully confident that he would be able to grieve in healthier ways the second time around. He also wanted to share some of the things he learned the first time with his siblings to help them as well. That is when the full vision for Love Always Flys Foundation was born.

Over the last 15 plus years, Billy Gene discovered a lot of intangibles that helped him go further than his grief counseling sessions alone could not help him to find full inner peace and outward overflowing joy and gratitude that he is finally ready to officially share with the world!

On the 9 year anniversary of his mother's passing and almost 4 years after his father suddenly passed in his sleep, Billy Gene decided to invite some of his closest friends to his multimedia studio to jam on some music he loved to play his drums to on Sunday's evenings. After the jam session, he felt a sense of peace and another layer of healing that was undiscovered previously in counseling sessions. And his musician friends all had a ball just being carefree and jamming on whatever came to mind or in their spirit creating new tunes on the spot. Someone asked when is the next one...and so it began...

Monthly jam sessions open only to musicians and artists in Downtown Los Angeles...that grew from a live studio room to a full house of people to a live room at a professional rehearsal hall culminating in a new live event mixing a live music jam session, comedy show with improv and DJ After party together called the LAFF ARTZY PARTY. The program initiative #LOVEOVERFLO became the official connection to LAFFINC.org to host the LAFF ARTZY PARTY to raise money and awareness of our programs and impact in the community. This gives musicians and artists a space to create without the rules of having to only play hit songs. This is all about getting in touch with your feelings and expressing them live. NO SCRIPT OR PLAYLIST. Just pure expression from the heart to allow your art to heal your heart. 

Not every artist, musician or participant was grieving the loss of loved ones who has passed. But even still, one artist discovered in a beautiful melody that came out that she was grieving a broken relationship with her child's father. And that is when Billy Gene knew there is much power in being vulnerable in this safe space environment to express it that more events and work must go forth officially!! 

And so the journey continues....
